Christmas 2005

We flew into Munich on Sunday December 25th, and drove south of Schliersee to visit with family friends, the Holtzmullers (Robert, Angi, Maria and Andreas) and the Hongis (Klaus and Gila) for Christmas. We were treated to delicious Bavarian dishes including Christmas cake, pretzels, Bavarian sausage made from veal, and German noodle dumplings called Spaetzle. The food was wonderful and the company warm. We were even treated to Maria playing the hammer dulcimer (much to her protesting and our insisting) and enjoyed an evening walk around the lake in Schliersee where we saw the town's churches and cemeteries as well as the May tree. We also stayed in a Guest house (Gastehaus Edith Lang) owned by friends of the Holtzmullers. After some touring of the warm accomodations we noticed many trophies and medal honoring a cross country skier. Through some struggled communication we learned that the couple who owned this guest house were also the proud parents of a professional Nordic (cross country) skier who won the Silver Medal at the 2002 Winter Olympic games in Utah. Posted by Picasa
