On the road again

On the way to Stowe we decided to take the scenic route. Of course this means longer driving but it was worth it.
Fact: In 1684, Kancamagus "the fearless one" was the leader of the Penacook Confederacy of Native American peoples in this region. He was the 3rd and final sagamon (leader) and he worked to keep the peace between the indigenous peoples and European explorers and settlers, unfortunately the newcomers pushed his patience past the breaking point. He finally resorted to battle to rid the region of Europeans, but the tide of history was against him, and by 1691 he and his followers were forced to escape northward. Posted by Picasa
